Day 9 Revision

DAY 8 Working with Data

EMPOWERMENT

AN EMPOWERED class is a class that learning is ready for them and not waiting for the teacher to get the learning to them. Digital technologies allow for this to happen on a daily basis.

The Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy are also about empowering all to succeed in the journey of learning.
This week allowed me to explore google sheets and forms more deeply which in turn will help me immensely. The tips and tricks that can make life so much easier and quicker to complete tasks.

Visible                             NO SURPRISES

Can you see it or can you not.                         It is either visible or not.

Visible teaching Visible learning

People need to see learning journeys

Visible to whānau, students, colleagues, teachers ........everyone

Learning journey needs to be visible the learning journey up to date has been like walking through a MAZE

SUCCESS used to be about the ability to read the teacher's mind - those that could SUCCEEDED those that couldn't FAILED

Thank goodness things have changed and students have more access to unlocking the secret.

The default is VISIBLE, not INVISIBLE

Every part of the learning process needs to be visible

Google Sites is a great way to lead learning in an online space where you can turbocharge student learning.

Buttons are a great way for people to access information quickly to keep to the 3 click rule.

Incognito window.

This is a great way to see if your documents on your site are VISIBLE. This is so much better than having to find someone with a different log in associated with the school.

Visible learning is the way forward and we as educators need to embrace this for the betterment of our students so that they have a better understanding of their learning journey
not just trying to unlock the code or find their way in a MAZE!

Today has been a very productive day where I have been able to update our school website. I have also learnt a lot of new little gems along the way.

DEVICES

The Chromebook device is robustly tested including being dropped to test sturdiness.

Ipads are a great resource to use in the classroom especially in the junior area.
Explain everything is the platform that is used. It is easy to use and allows learners to write, draw, record voice and have it playback.
Lasso is a great tool for being able to choose a part of a picture to use.

Using the right words
We need to make sure that we extend students vocabulary by using the right vocabulary for instance
Colour pallete for the colours - opacity (dimming)

Computational Thinking

Day 4 Computational Thinking

“Work with learners to establish an authentic audience for their learning outcomes”

Sharing in many ways even for the beginning of time. The digital age just gives us a wider audience.

Blogging
Resembles online platform that our young people want to be on
Able to provide this legally, systematically, securely
Guarantee 3 check system
No new sign in for G suite users
Can be used by learners and teachers
Largest audience reach via google
Multi purposed
Cybersmart is able to be used by the students having a go online with safe parameters so they can learn how to be safe online
A public visible open experience so our students can learn to be smart online
Sharing on a blog is a way of sharing finished work instead of it being stuck in a book. It also is a way of sharing to learn by people giving us feedback on blogs to continue the learning.

Technology is moving incredibly fast. I have mixed emotions about it.
                      EXCITEMENT - RESERVATIONS.

EXCITEMENT - there are such great opportunities out in the global world for all sorts of experiences that one can have from seeing the world from your living room to getting health care for things beyond imagination and flying in a pilot free plane!

RESERVATIONS- morally how does this play a part in what we know today? Are we crossing some boundaries? How do we know what the boundaries should be?

             ARE YOU WORRIED OR EXCITED?

Have a look and you decide.

Collaborate

Day 3 was spent catching planes and in airport terminals heading to the Manaiakalani convenors meeting.
I did, however, manage to catch up on some new learning through the links and rewindable information presented on the day.

Sites: I am currently creating a site where I am able to add folders from my google drive for ERO to view and critique.

Workflow Day 2

Day 2
A great learning day for me.  I found some real gems to make my life so much more streamlined. The first real gem was learning how to share my screen when hanging out. This was so simple yet very effective for when you are working with a group on a hangout and need to see a screen for more explanation of what is being discussed.
The second gem was sorting my emails.
I had ignored the 4 tab functions -promotions, updates and forums. This had meant that my inbox was full! 3856 emails to be exact. I had been on to it and made lots of labels but sometimes found it difficult to drag them in. Well, would you know it all you have to do is hit V and the folders come up and you can click on them to place them in the folders. Now my inbox has no emails and my folders are sorted. FANTASTIC feeling!
Google keep is great too. I had been using tasks but google keep is where you can make and keep lists and they sync to your phone. This has been a great find.
I am sorry that I will not be at day 3 in person but I will be completing it remotely which won’t be the same as having the professional conversations during the day.

Core Business Day 1

Wow, what a great day of learning.

I’ll admit I was very excited about the opportunity to enhance my digital skills through the digital fluency intensive but was worried about the time commitment with a lot of work hanging over me!

I needn’t have been worried the first day was so full of very useful tips that will make my work more streamlined and efficient.

I have a reasonable understanding of the Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy having been immersed in it for the last 2 and a half years. Also as a convenor, I am learning all the time at our regional Hui.
The thing that really interested and fascinated me was the journey of Manaiakalani from the very beginning to now. What a fantastic road they have travelled on and we as a school and collective of professional learners are very privileged to be a part of this evolving journey. (loving every moment).

On a professional note, I learnt many new tips to make life easier and to work smarter not harder and have created a document that will help me in my work.
